Like other professionals, computer scientists tend to develop a taste for tools they feel work well and are well-suited to their work. They spend many hours developing proficiency in these tools, and can develop an almost religious devotion to their favorite pieces of software. I'm no exception. Here, you'll find handy tips for using some programs I've worked with in the past few years.

Most of these tips are for vim, the editor in which I spend a great deal of my computer time. The rest are for various other Unix/Linux utilities that I've found invaluable.
